Glossary of Knitting Terms
k - knit
p - purl
k2 tog - knit 2 sts together
p2 tog - purl 2 sts together
tw2L or LT - twist 2 sts to the left (knit 2nd st through back loop, then knit first st through front loop, and remove from needle together)
tw2R or RT - twist 2 sts to the right (knit 2nd st through front loop, then knit first st through front loop, and remove both sts from needle together)
ssk - slip 2 sts to right needle knitwise, then insert left needle back through these two sts, and knit them (or knit 2 sts together through the back loop)
p2tog-b - purl 2 sts together through the back loop
k1-b - knit one stitch through the back loop
sl 1 - slip one stitch purlwise
yo - yarn over
M1 - make one (lift the running thread between the sts on each needle, place on left hand needle, and knit into the back loop)
sl 1, k2 tog, psso -- slip on st knitwise, knit next two sts together, and then pass slipped st over (a double decrease that slants to the left)
sl 2, k1, p2sso -- sl 2 sts as if to k2 tog, knit next st, then pass 2 slipped sts over (a central double decrease)
pm - place marker
rm - remove marker
dpn - a double pointed needle, or cable needle.
