This is a sweater I designed more than 20 years ago, and found the notes for it in my files. Although it is written for only one size, I hope someone out there will find a use for it.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 24 months (Finished chest measurement: 22 inches)

Materials: Worsted Weight yarn (approx. 6-8 oz.), knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 (U.S.), cable needle, 12-inch separating zipper, stitch holders.

Patterns:

Seeded Wishbone:

Row 1: p2, sl 3 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k1, then (p1, k1, p1) from cable needle, sl 1 st to cable needle, k1, p1, k1, then k1 from cable needle, p2.

Rows 2, 4, 6: k2 (p1, k1) 3 times, p2, k2.

Rows 3, 5: p2 (k1, p1) 3 times, k2, p2.

Row 7: p2, k1, p1, k3, p1, k2, p2.

Row 8: k2, p1, k1, p3, k1, p2, k2.

Repeat rows 1-8 for pattern.

Five-Rib Braid:

Row 1: p2, (k2 ,p1) 4 times, k2, p2

Row 2 (and all wrong side rows): p2, (k2, p1) 4 times, k2, p2.

Row 3: p2, k2, (p1, FC) twice, p2.

Row 5: rep row 1.

Row 7: p2, (BC, p1) twice, k2, p2.

Row 8: repeat row 2.

Repeat rows 1-8 for pattern.

Honeycomb:

Row 1: ( FC, BC) across row.

Rows 2, 4: purl.

Row 3: Knit

Repeat rows 1-4 for pattern.

Directions:

Back:

With smaller needles, cast on 59 sts.

Work ribbing as follows:

Row 1: *k3, (p1, k1-b) twice, p1, rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 2: *p3, (k1, p1-b) twice, k1, rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Rows 3-6: rep rows 2, 3.

Row 7: *k3, p1, sl 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k1-b, slip purl st back to left needle and purl, then k1-b from cable needle, p1, rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 8: rep row 2.

Rows 9-12: rep rows 1, 2, increasing 15 sts evenly on last row.

Change to larger needles, and set pattern as follows:

Row 1: (k1, p1) 3 times, sl 1, row 1 of Five-Rib Braid, sl 1, work row 1 of Wishbone panel twice over next 22 sts, sl 1,  row 1 of Five-Rib Braid, sl 1, (p1, k1) 3 times. (74 sts).

Row 2: (p1, k1) 3 times, p1, row 2 of Five-Rib Braid, p1, row 2 of Wishbone panel twice, p1, row 2 of Five-Rib Braid, p1, (k1, p1) 3 times.

Fronts:

Left Front: With smaller needles, cast on 27 sts. Work ribbing same as for Back, increasing 10 sts evenly on last row.

Right Front: Work same as Left Front, reversing patterns. Work till Right Front measures 12 inches from beginning. End with a wrong side row. Bind off all but the last 13 sts, and put those sts on a stitch holder.

Sleeves (make two):

Cast off all but the center Wishbone panel over the next two rows AND one extra st on each side for seam. (14 sts).

Work Wishbone panel  even for 3 inches. Place sts on stitch holder.

To Finish:

Sew shoulders of Fronts and Back to Sleeve extensions. Sew Sleeves to Fronts and Back. Sew side seams and sleeve seams.
