Skill Level: Intermediate

Materials: 1 skein worsted weight yarn (Caron Simply Soft used for model); size 10 (U.S.) knitting needles, stitch markers, stitch holder, tapestry needle.

Gauge is not important for this item.

Patterns:

Lace Edging:
Row 1: k1, yo, k2 tog, yo, k2.
Row 2: knit 6
Row 3: k2, yo, k2 tog, yo, k2.
Row 4: knit 7
Row 5: k3, yo, k2 tog, yo, k2.
Row 6: knit. 8
Row 7: k4, yo, k2 tog, yo, k2.
Row 8: bind off 4 sts, knit 4 more sts.

repeat rows 1-8 for pattern.

Fern Lace Pattern:
Row 1: k9, yo, k1, yo, k3, sl 3 sts as if to knit, then insert left hand needle back through those three sts  and knit them tog.
Row 2 (and all ws rows): purl.
Row 3: k 10, yo, k1, yo, k2, sl 3 sts as if to knit, then insert left hand needle back through those three sts  and knit them tog.
Row 5: k3 tog, k4, yo, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, yo, k1, sl 3 sts as if to knit, then insert left hand needle back through those three sts  and knit them tog.
Row 7: k3 tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k9.
Row 9: k3 tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k 10.
Row 11: k3 tog, k1, yo, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, yo, k4, sl 3 sts as if to knit, then insert left hand needle back through those three sts  and knit them tog.
Row 12: knit

repeat rows 1 - 12 for pattern.

Directions: (scarf is worked in two halves and then stitched together with kitchener stitch)

Cast on 26 sts.
Row 1: knit 5, place marker, k 16, place marker, work row 1 of Lace Edging.  (27 sts)
Row 2: work row 2 of Lace Edging, slip marker, k 16, slip marker, work row 1 of Lace Edging.  (28 sts)
Row 3: work row 2 of Lace Edging, slip marker, k16, slip marker, work row 3 of Lace Edging.  (29 sts).
Row 4: work row 4 of Lace Edging, slip marker, k 16, slip marker, work row 3 of Lace Edging.  (30 sts)
Row 5: work row 4 of Lace Edging, slip marker, k16, slip marker, work row 5 of Lace Edging.  (31 sts)
Row 6: work row 6 of Lace Edging, slip marker, k16, slip marker, work row 5 of  Lace Edging.  (32 sts).
Row 7: work row 6 of Lace Edging, slip marker, work row 1 of Fern Lace Pattern, slip marker, work row 7 of Lace Edging. (33 sts)
Row 8: work row 8 of Lace Edging, slip marker, work row 2 of Fern Lace Pattern, slip marker, work row 7 of Lace Edging. (30 sts)
Row 9: work row 8 of Lace Edging, slip marker, work row 3 of Fern Lace Pattern, slip marker, work row 1 of Lace Edging. (26 sts)

Continue working in patterns as set, slipping markers where needed, until there are 16 'points' up sides of scarf. Cut yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Place sts on a stitch holder.

Work second half of scarf same as the first.
Stitch center of scarf using kitchener stitch.
Weave in ends.
