Firework Fantasy AFghan
©2011 by Judy Lamb
Experience Level: Intermediate
Materials: Circular knitting needles, size 10 1/2; Sensations Rainbow Classics yarn, 2 skeins blue/white stripes, 2 skeins berry/white stripes.
Note: Read ALL directions carefully before starting. Also, stitch count changes on every row.
Note on graph: The "X" on the graph means there is no stitch there. Just skip over any squares that have an "X" in them. They are drawn in only to make the pattern line up correctly. So, for example, row 1 would read: p4, inc in next, (k1, p2) 6 times, k1, inc in next, p4.
Directions: With Blue, Cast on 154 sts.
Row 1: k5, start row 1 of chart, reading from right to left, repeating 5 times. On final repeat, omit last stitch of repeat, then k5.
Row 2: k5, reading from left to right, omit first st of chart on first repeat only, then follow chart for four more repeats, k5.
This sets pattern.
Follow chart, working 5 sts of border at each side in garter stitch, as set, and omitting last stitch of each final repeat on right side rows, and first st of beginning repeat on wrong side rows.
ALSO: When working row 27, work beginning of first repeat as a k3-tog, work to end, following chart, and work last 3 sts of last repeat as k3tog-B. All other repeats are worked as marked on chart.
ALSO: When working row 28, k2tog at beginning of first repeat, and k2 tog at end of last repeat. All other repeats are worked as marked on chart.
When 28 rows of chart are complete, attach Red, and begin chart again, working exactly the same as described above.
Continue to change colors each time chart is begun until there are twelve repeats of the chart (or 6 blue stripes, and 6 red stripes on afghan).
Finishing: Work 8 rows garter stitch(knitting every row) in Blue. Bind off.
