Grapevine Cardigan

Size: To fit 34" chest
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn (30 oz. dk green, 4 oz purple), size 7 circular needles, double pointed needle (dpn), stitch markers, eight 5/8" buttons.
Abbreviations:
FC: slip two sts to dpn and hold in front. Knit two sts from left-hand needle, then knit two from dpn.
BC: slip two sts to dpn and hold in back. Knit two sts from left-hand needle, then knit two from dpn.
CABLE: slip 3 sts to dpn and hold in back. Knit three sts from left-hand needle, then knit three from dpn.
Tw2R: Knit next two sts together, but do not remove from needle; then knit first st again. Remove both sts together.
Tw2L: Knit into the back of the second st on left hand needle, then into the front of the first. Remove both sts together.
MB: (bobble) In specified st: k1, yo, k1, yo, k1. Turn work. P5. Turn work. K5. Turn work. p2 tog, p1, p2tog. Turn work. Sl first st, k2tog, then pass slipped st over.
k1-b: knit into the back of the stitch.
Combine 5: sl next three sts to right hand needle. *Insert left hand needle into second stitch on right hand needle and slip over first. Transfer this st to left hand needle. Insert right hand needle in second st on left hand needle and pass this st over the first. Transfer this st to right hand needle and repaeat from *. (Combines 5 sts into one)

Keeping in these patterns, work even until piece measures 11 1/4" from bottom of border.
Separate work into fronts and back: Work across 55 sts, bind off 14 sts, work across next 107 sts, bind off 14 sts, work across next 55. Turn work.
Left Front: Keeping in patterns, dec 1 st at armhole edge every other row, 9 times. Work front even until yoke measures 7 inches. Begin neck shaping: Bind off 10 sts at neck edge, then decrease one sts at neck edge every row 8 times, then every other row 4 times. At the same time, begin shoulder shaping when yoke measures 8 inches. Decrease for shoulders: at armhole edge, bind off 7 sts, work 1 row, bind off 6 sts, work 1 row, bind off 6 sts, work 1 row, bind off final 6 sts.
Right Front: Attach yarn at armhole edge of right front. Shape Right Front same as Left Front, reversing shapings, and continuing to add buttonholes on buttonhole band.
Back: Attach yarn at left armhole edge of Back piece. Shape armholes and shoulders same as Fronts, keeping in set patterns. Place remaining sts on a stitch holder.
Sleeves: (make two) Cast on 46 sts, and work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 1/2 inches. Inc 11 sts evenly on next right side row. Set up patterns as follows on wrong side row: k4, p8, k4, place marker, k8, p2, k4, p1, k7, p1, k2, place marker, k4, p8, k4. Next row: row 1 of Framed Cable, (marker), Row 2 of Grapevine, (marker), row 1 of Framed Cable. Keep in set patterns, inc 1 st each side every 4 rows 19 times, adding a Mock Cable, p2, k1, at each side when sts allow, and then working remaining sts in Moss Stitch. After all increases are made, work even for 8 more rows, or until sleeve measures 15 3/4 inches.
Cap and Shaping: Bind off 7 sts at the beginning of next two rows. At the same time, add another p2, Mock Cable at edges of cap. This should leave only one purl st for the seam at the edges. Work even for 5 5/8 inches, then decrease 1 st each side every other row 7 times.
Next row: k2tog across row.
Next row: k2tog across row, binding off as you work across.
Finishing: Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into armholes.
Neckband: Pick up a total of 89 sts along neck edge, knitting across back sts from stitch holder. Making last buttonhole in right front on first row, work in k1, p1 ribbing for 6 rows, then in Stockinette Stitch for 6 rows. Bind off.
Sew buttons on button band.
