Size: To fit Newborn
Materials: small amount of sport weight yarn, knitting needles, size 6 (US), 24 inches of 1/4" ribbon for bonnet ties.
Gauge: 5.5 sts/inch in stockinette stitch

BONNET:

Note: Make increases by purling into the front and back of one stitch.
Cast on 69 sts
Work stockinette for 5 rows (end with a knit row)
Knit 3 rows.

Crown Shaping:

Row 2: (and all even numbered rows): knit
Row 3: (k5, k2 tog) across.
Row 5: (k4, k2 tog) across.
Row 7: (k3, k2 tog) across.
Row 9: (k2, k2 tog) across.
Row 11: (k1, k2 tog) across.
Row 13: (k2 tog) across.  (8 sts remain.)

Cut yarn, leaving a tail, and thread through rem 8 sts. Pull tight. Sew seam of crown.

Pick up 49 sts evenly along bottom of bonnet between rolled edge brim. Do not pick up sts along sts of rolled brim.
Knit 3 rows.

Next row: k1, (yo, k2 tog) to last st.
Knit 2 rows.
Bind off Knitwise.

Thread a 24-inch length of ¼-inch ribbon through eyelets at bottom of bonnet for ties.
